Latest News and Guidance for Coaches

April is in the rear view mirror, and we enter the final stretch of the school year. I’m sure many of you are as ready for a summer break as your students are. Hence our annual plea: if at all possible, can you finish out the school year with your student. In so many cases, they count on you to help them prepare for finals and complete all assignments. It’s really disruptive if their coach leaves them hanging a week or two too soon.

If you do need to get out of town before the end of the school year, please give your HomeworkCoach parents as much notice as possible. We could potentially send in a substitute coach, although this is not often successful so late in the year.

Mobile Apps are Here!

We are excited to unveil our company’s first mobile app. It’s pretty much identical to the web reporting system you already know, same username and password, but it should work more efficiently on your phone.

  • The Apple iOS app is unlisted, since it’s just for you, not the wider world, so you need to click this link to get it.
  • If you have an Android phone, please download the app from the Google Play Store

When you launch the app, you have to select a “Location” — yours will be HomeworkCoach (the other cities are where we operate our sister division In-Home Tutors). Let us know if you have any comments or problems or suggestions.

Reminder of our payment schedule. Please remember to get your hours reported by the 14th and last day each month. We will often be able to add in hour report on our actual payday but that’s not guaranteed.  And, as you’ll have noted, even though we initiate payments on the 1st and 15th, you will not see money in your bank until the 8th and 22nd, or a day later when a public holiday intervenes. This seems too long to us too, but it’s the way our bank processor does it.

Most clients have a strong preference for in-home coaching. So many ADHD kids really struggled with remote schooling during the pandemic. There are times when meeting online is fine, for example as a between-session check-in or when there is an unexpected schedule conflict or inclement weather. But your default should always be to meet at the student’s home.

Remember to always be thinking about how you can improve your students’ executive functioning!  Call us anytime you have questions or simply want to update us on your progress.  Use this form to let us know of any changes to your address or availability.

The concept of Executive Function skills building is becoming more widely understood by parents.  Luckily we are ready.  If you read our press release  and our paper on Executive Function,   you’ll understand our positioning.

Thanks for your good work for us.  As always, don’t hesitate to call or email for advice, or simply to update us on any developments with your student.

Reminder about lesson length

  • All lessons should be a minimum of one hour.  Report at least one hour unless the shorter lesson is your fault (for example you arrived late and could not offer a full hour of tutoring).  Explain a short lesson in the Comment field when you report your hours.
  • Conversely, please do NOT charge for more than one hour unless the parent is aware in advance.  Some parents are on tight budgets and are not necessarily tracking the time that you are working with their child.  At the end of your first hour, you must make sure it is ok with the parent to continue tutoring.
  • Here are ideas for using the full hour.

Can we nag you about getting Lesson Sheets signed?

Always you get a lesson sheet signed after each session.  We only need it in cases of a billing dispute– rare but it does happen.  If you cannot document that you taught a lesson, we have no choice but to believe the parent and credit them for the disputed lesson.  In this case, we will apply a “charge back” to your payment.

Need to update payment information?

We strongly prefer using direct deposit for payment, it’s much quicker and more reliable than mailed checks. But we will mail checks on request. Update your direct deposit information here.

Or update your address?

Keep us current on anything new with you: new address, phone or credentials. That will help us know what jobs and locations you’d be suited for. Click for our update form,
